Beginning
when Andrew was seven years old, I took him on a journey of discovery.
That he not only trusted me but also actively participated still elicits
wonder. I taught him organizational skills, provided tools for
organization, and removed all pre-processed foods with additives from
his diet. The Tomatis Center taught Andrew methods that use highly
vibrational music, usually Mozart, through special headphones, to clear
the path of the inner ear to the brain. Andrew also tried
biofeedback. Both of these methods created a shift in his
behavior. Finally, we were introduced to Educational Kinesiology
or “Brain Gym” as it is more commonly referred to. Brain Gym
creates and supports whole-brain, integrated learning using physical
movements to re-educate the brain. This learning resource turned
Andrew around on a dime.
I saw a huge difference
in his behavior, productivity and self-esteem within three months.
Many times, after a session with his Brain Gym coach, Debbie Jensen, he
would say, “Mom, I felt my brain click into place”. He was
well on his way to healing his “ADD” and casting off years of
frustration when his life was tragically and unfairly cut short.
In his short life, he experienced more, lived more and enjoyed life more
than most mature adults.
On my path to a
purposeful, meaningful life, I have picked up the gauntlet that Andrew
threw down. That gauntlet is to carry his truth and mine to others
in hopes that people searching for answers to leading a fully integrated
life will be inspired by Andrew’s story and use the resources to
change their lives.
Brain Gym and the other
resources listed on this web site are not just for ADD or ADHD.
They have been dramatically successful in helping people with a variety
of life challenges; depression, learning disabilities, setting and
achieving goals, stress and emotional over-load. All of these
resources are about “wholeness”. These methods are dedicated
to bringing the body, mind, emotions and spirit into a balance of
support so that effective and efficient life-learning can take place.
Andrew always looked
forward to his sessions with his brain-gym coach. He left knowing
and feeling something “click”, feeling better about himself and his
abilities. He learned to stay on task, shift his attitude, work
effectively in difficult situations and most of all he learned how to
learn. He thanked me many times for supporting him by giving
him these resources.
The information on this
web site is available thanks to Andrew, empowered student, eternal
teacher.
